Dellium, ipso loco Dilli vel Dehli[1] enuntiatum, rite Territorium Capitale Nationale Delliense, est maxima area metropolitana et secunda metropolis numero civium in India.[2][3][4][5] Dellium est octava orbis terrarum metropolis, 16 753 235 habitantibus in territorio tempore census 2011. Sunt paene 22.2 milliones habitantium in regione urbana, quae etiam Noidam, Noidam Maiorem, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, et Faridabad, cum aliis oppidis minoribus, comprehendit.[6]

Regio urbis, ad ripas Fluminis Yamunae sita, continenter post saeculum 6 a.C.n. vel ante habitata est,[7] sed habitatio humana creditur post secundum millennium a.C.n. coepisse.[8] Dellium late habetur situs Indraprasthae, commenticii capitis Pandavas tempore Mahabharata.[9] Dellium in historiam emersit maior urbs rerum politicarum, culturae, et commercii secundum itinera mercaturae inter Indiam septentrio-occidentalem et Planitiem Gangeticam, sultanatibus Delliensibus orsis.[10][11] Id est situs multorum monumentorum antiquorum et mediaevalium, et locorum reliquiorumque studii archaeologici. Anno 1639, Shahjahan imperator Mughal novam urbem muro cinctam Dellii aedificavit, quae caput erat Imperii Mughal a 1649 ad 1857.[12][13]
