Tethys (Graece Τηθύς) in mythologia Graeca est Titan, filia Urani et Gaeae, et uxor Titani Oceani, dei marini et fratris, et mater eius liberorum deorum fluviatilium et Oceanidum. Quae autem nullas partes actuosas in narrationibus fabularum egit, nullosque cultus constitutos habuit.[1] Oceanus et Tethys ab Homero omnium genitores fuisse dicuntur quo argumento philosophi Ionici, Heracliti discipuli, utebantur ad motum universum probandum prout omnia e fluctu sempiterno nasci interpretabantur[2]
