Constantinus III fuit filius imperatoris Heraclii et uxoris primae eius, Eudociae. Sed Martina, uxor secunda Heraclii, filium suum Heraclonan successorem Heraclii esse voluit. Ita die 4 Iunii 638 Heraclius Heraclonan socium imperatoris fecit. Postquam Heraclius 11 Februarii 641 mortuus est, Martina procurationem imperatoris cepit, sed non prohibere potuit quin Constantinus III imperator fieret.

Constantinus III 24 Maii 641 morbe vitam decessit, postquam filium suum Constantem II successorem designavit. Aestate anni imperator factus est.
