Melanargia est genus papilionum tribus Satyrinorum subfamiliae Satyrinarum familiae Nymphalidarum. enus, ab Ioanne Gulielmo Geigen anno 1828 descriptum, est solum genus subtribus Melargiinorum (Wheeler, 1903). Genus olim in Satyridas digestum est. Adulti huius generis alis albis venisque et notationibus nigris facile distinguuntur Proprietas phenotypica est vena duodecima dilatata in ima alae anterioris parte. Papiliones huius generis latissime ab Europa et Africa Septentrionali ad Iaponiam habitant.
