Mangus
Mangus[1] est drupa a multis arborum tropicarum speciebus genita, quae ad Mangiferam pertinent, genus plantarum florentium, plerumque fructuum edulium causa cultum. Ferae plurimarum harum specierum in natura inveniuntur plantae. Genus ad familiam Anacardiacearum ordinis Sapindalium pertinet. Indigena in Asia Meridiana est,[2][3] in regione ex qua Mangifera indica ("mangus Indicus" et "mangus vulgatus" appellata) per totum orbem terrarum introducta est, ut unus e fructibus latissime in zonis tropicis cultis sit. Aliae generis Mangiferae (e.g., Mangiferae foetidae) species in minoribus regionibus coluntur.

Sunt per orbem terrarum aliquot centum mangorum cultivarietates, quarum proprietates fructus nituntur magnitudine, forma, dulcitudine, colore cutis, et colore carnis, qui flavus pallidus, aureus, vel aurantius esse potest.[2] Mangus est fructus nationalis Indiae et arbor nationalis Bangladesae.[4]
Etymologia
recensereNomen manga est vocabulum Lusitanum, quod ex mangga vocabulo Malaico, vicissim ex mankay vocabulo Dravidiano (plerumque Tamulico) ortum est, ubi man arborem mangiferam et kay fructum significat.[5] Nomen mangus in commercio condimentorum cum India Meridiana saeculis quinto decimo et sexto decimo ortum est.[5]
