Biographia
recenserecuius natalium annus putabatur fuisse 1610, ob lectum mendosum anni in pictura collectionis Ioannis G.Johnson (Philadelphiae): 1632 contra 1652[1]. Nam primum opus suum anno 1644 perfectum est, ita opinatus est Dubois natus esse ab anno 1620 usque ad 1625[1]. Giltaij Harlemi duos repperit Gulielmos Dubois, unus die 11 Octobris 1623 a Danihel du Bois et Maeyke de Pene nactus est, alter die 6 Iulii 1625 a Ioanne du Bois et Elisabetha Macque[1]. Cum anno 1659 Gulielmus ut heres Danihel du Bois non commemoretur, 1625 natalium annus probabilius est (Giltaij 1977, p. 145-146)[1]. Ex Van Thiel-Stroman consectationibus (2006), mortis annus quoque incertus est cum inumationis annus, 1680, ad artificem probabiliter non spectet sicut Van der Willigen adfirmavit (1870)[1]. Ex Van Thiel-Stroman sententia, Dubois mors anno 1653 aut deinde accidit[1]. Reapse post 1653 nuntia artificis non pervenerunt et interiectus 1644-1653 ipsius negotii tempus putari potest[1].
A medio genere natus, nam pater textorum mercator erat[2], Dubois in arte pictoria ab Abrahamo Cuyper et Bernardo Kemp doctus est[1].
Anno 1646 ad Sancti Lucae Sodalitatem Harlemensem receptus est ibique laboravit usque ad 21 Augusti 1652, ut Coloniam Agrippinam petiit cum pictoribus aliis[1][3][4]. Ibi mansit usque ad 23 Septembris 1652 cum Vincentio Laurentii filio van der Vinne et magistro Abrahamo Cuyper, Theodoricus Helmbreker autem Harlemum rediit[1]. Cum van der Vinne Heidelbergam petiit ibique delineationes confecit[1]. Die 28 Novembris 1652 a Heidelberga pictores discesserunt et Coloniam Agrippinam redierunt[1]. Usque ad Martium 1653 primum ad Abrahamum Cuyper, deinde ad Bernardum Kemp laboravit et denique Nederlandiam rediit, van der Vinne autem cum Iusto Boelen praeterea peregrinatus est, fluminis Rheni oram radens[1].
Dubois opera topia complectuntur[1][4], nec non res architectonicas et scaenas in litoris[1]. Insuper ob iter alia argumenta ad topia sua tam adiungere quiit[3], ut praecipue perfecerit despectus Rheni ac aliorum fluminum, qua ad hoc confluunt[4]. Hadrianus van de Velde eum adiuvavit, qui personas pinxit in alia sua topia, etiamsi solite is ipse eas confecerit[3]. Artifex imitabatur Cornelium Hendrikz Vroom[1], Salomonem ac Iacobum de Ruysdael[3], cuius sectator putari potest[5]. Ex Richter et Sparkes sententia, autem, genus pingendi Dubois similius Meindert Hobbema est ob selectionem et simplicitatem argumentorum in opera sua[4]. Artificis proprium est tractatio praevalens pigmenti viridis, quod, fine curriculi vitae , aquilium fit[4].
