De vita et cursus
recensereArlen natus est Buffalo in oppido septentrionali et occidentali Novi Eboraci, filius cuiusdam hazzan (cantoris Iudaici).[1] Frater gemellus proximo die mortuus est. Clavili ludere iuvenis didicit, et gregem musicum adolescens creavit. Bene res gestas clavilista cantorque Buffalo habuit antequam ad Urbem Novum Eboracum annis aetatis suae vicensimis ineuntibus migravit, ubi adiunctionem in spectaculis vaudeville praebebat,[4] ac nomen ad Harold Arlen mutavit. Ab anno 1926 ad 1934 fere, Arlen aliquando cantor gregum musicorum apparebat in phonodiscis a The Buffalodians, Red Nichols, Joe Venuti, Leo Reisman, et Eduardus Duchin, suas compositiones saepe cantans.
Arlen "Get Happy," suum primum cantum populo gratum, anno 1929 composuit, verbis a Theodoro Koehler conditis.[1] Annis 1930 ineuntibus et mediis, Arlen et Koehler exhibitiones pro Cotton Club, discotheca Harlemensi inter flores populari, et iterum pro theatro musico in Broadway Novi Eboraci et pelliculis musicis Ruscisilvensibus in Ora Occidentali conscripserunt.[1] Societas Arlen et Koehler multos successús produxit, inter quos "Let's Fall in Love" et "Stormy Weather," normas nobiles.[1] Arlen clavilista et vocalista prospere perfungi pergebat, notissime in phonodiscis cum orchestra saltationis socialis Leonis Reisman.
Arlen annis 1930 mediis, uxore ductá, magis magisque in California commorabatur, musicam pro pelliculis componens. Quo tempore cum E. Y. "Yip" Harburg poeta collaborare coepit.[1] Collegium Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer ambos anno 1938 conduxit ut cantús pro The Wizard of Oz componerent,[1] quorum notissimum est "Over the Rainbow," cuius causá Arlen et Harburg Praemium Academiae Optimo Cantu vicerunt. Etiam produxerunt "Down with Love" (magnum cantum in Hooray for What! exhibitione Broadway anno 1937), "Lydia the Tattooed Lady" (pro Groucho Marx in At the Circus anno 1939), et "Happiness Is a Thing Called Joe" (pro Ethel Waters in Cabin in the Sky, pellicula anno 1943).[1]
Arlen diu erat socius et olim etiam socius cubicularis Ray Bolger, histrionis qui partes terriculi in The Wizard of Oz egit.
Arlen se annis 1940 cum Ioanne Mercer poeta consociavit, novosque successús componere pergebat, inter quos "Blues in the Night," "Out of this World," "That Old Black Magic," "Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive," "Any Place I Hang My Hat Is Home," "Come Rain or Come Shine," et "One for My Baby (and One More for the Road)."[1]
Arlen duos composuit e definitivis cursús vitae Iudithae Garland cantibus: "Over the Rainbow" et "The Man That Got Away," hic pro pellicula A Star Is Born, editione anni 1954.[1]
Mors

Ergo Samuel Arlen societatem cui sunt iura carminum Arlenianorum hodie administrat.
