Salve, Frontfrog!

Ave! Spero te "Vicipaedianum" aut "Vicipaedianam" fieri velle!

Gratias ago propter emendationes tuas.

Ratio mensurae specialis "221x221", a te impositae, nescio. Si comprimere aut augere necesse est, melior est mensuras visibiles non absolutas sed proportionales dare (e.g. |upright=0.75| seu |upright=1.5|) quia computatra et telephonia etc. inter se differunt. quam est lectio vasa electionis?

@Andrew Dalby, quam est lectio vasa electionis? how is the selection of articles for election by months? Frontfrog (disputatio) 20:19, 20 Octobris 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your question. Currently our aim is to choose articles that are reasonably thorough, in good Latin, with appropriate sources and illustrations. Please make suggestions, and comment on suggestions made by others, at Disputatio Vicipaediae:Pagina mensis! Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 18:46, 21 Octobris 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you so much for your answer. Gratias tibi ago! Frontfrog (disputatio) 18:56, 21 Octobris 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Andrew Dalby I would like to ask you if there will be a list of articles for the next year (possibly in december)? Frontfrog (disputatio) 11:09, 23 Octobris 2021 (UTC)Reply
Anyone can take on the task of inserting a monthly page on the Pagina prima. It does not have to be me. But, for the present, I am doing it.
In recent years I have not made a list for the whole year in advance: I have simply chosen, each month, one of the pages that were suggested. If anyone else took over the job, they could decide to make a list in advance! Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 13:24, 23 Octobris 2021 (UTC)Reply
It will be good if you'll write a monthly list from November, anyway...Or maybe could I write it? Frontfrog (disputatio) 09:17, 29 Octobris 2021 (UTC)Reply
Certainly you can. You can write on the Vicipaedia:Taberna that you are making a list of future pages of the month, and you can invite more suggestions. It's best, I think, to use pages that have at least two voices in favour -- the editor who suggested it and one other who approved the suggestion.
I will put up a page for November -- OK? -- and while doing it I will make a list of the steps in the process. It's not difficult. Then, from December onwards, you could do it instead of me, if you want. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 13:50, 29 Octobris 2021 (UTC)Reply
I agree. And what article will be in November if it's not secret? :) Frontfrog (disputatio) 14:07, 29 Octobris 2021 (UTC)Reply
No, no secrets here :) I'll put up Saturnus (planeta). From December onwards, the choice can be yours. Is that OK for you? Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 20:10, 29 Octobris 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! Frontfrog (disputatio) 20:21, 29 Octobris 2021 (UTC)Reply

Fuller notes on setting up a new Pagina Mensis

recensere

Brief instructions appear at the foot of Vicipaedia:Pagina mensis. Just in case this helps --

  1. strikeout pagename at Disputatio Vicipaediae:Pagina mensis
  2. go to the chosen page (A) in new tab
  3. go to Vicipaedia:Pagina mensis: from there, open the formula for the current month (C) and also, in new tab, create the new formula for the coming month (B) (a blank edit screen)
  4. copy some text from the beginning of A into B
  5. open C as if for editing
  6. Delete all footnotes from B completely. Compare B and C for length, and if B is much shorter, add more text from A
  7. Choose a good image from A. Copy it to the beginning of B and change the formatting to suit the pagina prima. Delete |thumb| and |upright| and insert |right|175px| or something similar
  8. Make the initial lemma of B a link to A (for example, change '''Saturnus''' to '''[[Saturnus (planeta)|Saturnus]]'''
  9. At the end of the text of B add ... and make it another link to A (for example, '''[[Saturnus (planeta)|...]]''')
  10. If the first sentence of B has too many alternative names, delete some of them to make that sentence readable
  11. Preview B: make sure that the image appears correctly on the right, the footnotes are completely gone, and the lemma and the final ... appear correctly as links
  12. Save B. Note: you will not see it in the pagina prima until the stroke of midnight!
  13. In A, add the formula {{FA stella}} at the end of the page
  14. At the top of the talk page of A add the formula {{PagMen|2021|12}}, adjusting for the actual year and month
  15. Edit Vicipaedia:Pagina mensis to add the name of A after the formula for the month
  16. Go to the Wikidata page for A. Edit the entry for the Latin page, adding a badge (select "pagina mensis")

That's it! It seems a lot, but it only takes a few minutes Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 17:29, 31 Octobris 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thanks a lot! It seems difficult but I'll try it in next month. I'll try to navigate by the old nominations. Frontfrog (disputatio) 17:44, 31 Octobris 2021 (UTC)Reply
It sounds difficult, but I think, once you have done it once, it'll seem easy. I will be around at the end of the month so you can ask me if anything isn't clear.
I usually wait till day 29/30/31 before doing this. It's quite possible to do it earlier. The only difference is this: once you've done it, improvements that anyone makes to the text of page A will not appear in B. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 14:20, 1 Novembris 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Andrew Dalby, please, check my changes and correct if it's needed. I hope I did the right thing. Frontfrog (disputatio) 22:22, 27 Novembris 2021 (UTC)Reply
It all looks perfect to me. If you're willing to go on doing this, I'm very happy. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 09:42, 28 Novembris 2021 (UTC)Reply
@UV is now back with us after a spell in the real world. UV generally checks the new page, early on the first day of the month, making any small corrections that seem to be needed, and this is often helpful. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 09:46, 28 Novembris 2021 (UTC)Reply
I have now added a description to the image - hopefully helpful ;-) Greetings, --UV (disputatio) 16:24, 28 Novembris 2021 (UTC)Reply
Happy New Year, Frontfrog! Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 17:24, 31 Decembris 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Andrew Dalby, Happy New Year too! Thank you for congratulations! Wish you more good articles in New Year! Frontfrog (disputatio) 21:27, 31 Decembris 2021 (UTC)Reply

I put up the page for February on 31 January at about 10.30 pm my time. If you want to continue putting up the monthly pages, I'd be very happy, but it needs to be done in good time so that others are not left in doubt whether it will be done at all. It occurred at least twice last year that the page was put up late. This isn't good.

Do you want to go on doing it? Could you make a rule for yourself to do it 2 or 3 days (or even longer if that works better for you) before the end of the month? Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 21:55, 31 Ianuarii 2023 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry but I was busy for it. If you want you could putting up the monthly pages. Frontfrog (disputatio) 14:19, 7 Februarii 2023 (UTC)Reply
No problem, I'll do it for a while. But meanwhile please keep on suggesting more pages to use -- that's really helpful! Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 20:47, 7 Februarii 2023 (UTC)Reply
