Vasingtonius Irving
Vasingtonius Irving (natus Washington Irving ; 3 Aprilis 1783—28 Novembris 1859) fuit scriptor, libellorum scriptor, biographus, rerum gestarum scriptor, et legatus Civitatum Foederatarum. Praecipue pro "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" ('Legendum Convallis Semisomna') et "Rip Van Winkle" innotuit, fabulis brevibus quorum ambo in libro The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent. primum apparuerunt.
Postquam ad Angliam navigaverat ad adiuvandum negotium familiare anno 1815, magnopere innotuit ob The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent. ('Liber adumbrationum Geoffreii Crayon, hominis generosi') annis 1819–1820 prolatum. Res constanter—et paene semper prospere—per vitam proferebat, et biographiam confecit Georgii Vasingtonii quinque voluminibus prolatam, octo menses ante mortem, anno 76 aetatis suae, in oppidulo Tarreytown Novi Eboraci.
Irving, cum Iacobo Fenimore Cooper, fuit primus scriptor Americanus qui in Europa gratiam populi meruit, et ipse Nathanieli Hawthorne, Hermanno Melville, Henrico Wadsworth Longfellow, Edgaro Allan Poe, aliisque auctoribus Americanis alacritatem scribendi addidit. Admirationi etiam fuit a scriptoribus Europaeis, inter quos Gualterius Scott, Dominus Byron, Thomas Campbell, Franciscus Jeffrey, et Carolus Dickens.
