Psidium est genus arborum et fruticum familiae Myrtacearum,[2] qui in calidioribus hemisphaerii occidentalis regionibus inveniuntur, praecipue in Mexico et America Media Australique, Indis Occidentalibus, Insulis Galapagensibus, et meridianis Civitatibus Foederatis.[3][4][5][6][7][8][9] Folia sunt opposita vel subalternata, pelludicis punctis glandulosis notata.

Hoc genus primum a Carolo Linnaeo anno 1753 descriptum est.[11][12] Multae species fructus edules ferunt, qua pro causa nonnullae pro commercio coluntur.[13] Species culta populo gratissima est Psidium guajava.[14][15]
