Gecarcinidae, vulgo tantum cancri terrestres saepe appellatae, sunt familia verorum Brachyurorum quae pro vita terrestri accommodantur. Cancri terrestres, omnium aliorum cancrorum similes, series branchiarum habent. Accedit quod pars carapacis branchias tegens inflata est, vasis sanguinis praedita, organis quae oxygenium ex aere extrahunt, sicut vertebratorum pulmones. Adulti cancri terrestres, quamquam animalia terrestria, mare interdum visitant, ubi pariunt et earum larvae crescunt. Cancri terrestres sunt omnivora tropica, multum detrimentum plantarum aliquando efficientes. Unum plurimorum cancrorum terrestrium bracchium alio est maius.
