Theo Alexandrinus (Graece Θέων ὁ Ἀλεξανδρεύς; Alexandriae circa annum 335 natus; ibidem circa annum 405) fuit antiquus philosophus mathematicus, astrologus Graecus, qui editionem Euclidis Elementa curavit ordinavitque, et commenta Euclidis ac Claudii Ptolemaeii operibus scripsit.

Theon vixit et docuit Alexandriae in Aegypto saeculo quarto, cum Hypatia filia, philosophiae perita. Is appellabatur divinus, ex divina Gente Potitia, sacrorum mysteriorum Herculis Invicti sacrae scientiae custos.

Theon nomine “vir Μουσειόντος” in Suda[1] memoratur, titulo ad Musaeum Alexandrinum (quod a Christianis[2] destruibitur) pertinente, cuius rector fuit, vel, aliis rumoribus, ad Serapeum cum Musaeo confusum simili usu (iuxta eosdem fontes, illud a Christianis deletum est secundum edictum Theodosianum, cum bibliothecae excidii dies anticipanda ad tempora Aureliani imperatoris ac Zenobiae Palmyrensis reginae, inter quos fuit magna gravisque contentio anno 270 fere, aut protrahenda usque ad obsidionem Alexandriae ab Anir Ibn al-As anno 642 esset.

Filiam habuit Hypatiam, quae prima in historia nota femina mathematice memoratur et nota est ob finem tamquam victima aliquot monachorum Christianorum (monachorum Parabolanorum).

Maxime notus ut scholarum philomatemathicarum conditor, multae edidit Theon commentatae mathematicarum operum atque ad scientiam pertinentium editiones (ut, exempli gratia, Elementa Euclidis vel Ptolemaei Syntaxis mathematica) ac de astrolabio libellum scripsit (eum ipsum, forte, inveniens). Neque obliviscenda editio eius in Elementa qua opera Euclidis omnia memoriae potuit plane tradi.
