Reductionismus est ullus ex nonnullis statibus philosophicis qui tractant coniunctiones inter phaenomena vel theorias, unam ad aliam minuens ("reducens"), ratio quae "simplicior" vel "fundamentalior" habetur. Haec vox est "unus ex terminis adhibitissimis et perversissimis in lexicon philosophico."[1] Reductionismus rebus, phaenomenis, explanationibus, theoriis, significationibusque adhiberi potest.[2]

Descartes in De homine (1662) posuit animalia non humana automata reductionismo explanari posse, ut in adumbratione Anatis Concoquentis monstratur.
