Daktulosphaira vitifoliae
Daktulosphaira vitifoliae est hemipterum familiae Phylloxeridarum, pestis vitium commercii omnem per orbem terrarum nota, sed in America Septentrionali orientali endemica. Haec insecta, paene microscopica, flava diluta, aphidoideis cognata, radicibus foliisque vitium suco sugendo vescuntur. In Vitibus viniferis, deformationes radicum ("nodositates" et "tuberositates" appellatae) et infectiones fungorum quae fiunt radices cingere possunt, flumen aquae nutrimentorumque gradatim intercludentes. Nymphae fella ut se defendant in inferioribus foliorum nonnullarum specierum vitium lateribus faciunt, et sub cortice vel intra radices hiemant; haec fella solum in foliis vitium Americanarum plerumque inveniuntur.

De nomine
recensereSpecies ab Asa Fitch anno 1855 Novo Eboraco in civitate nomine Pemphigus vitifoliae primum descripta[1] mox ab H. Shimer anno 1866 sub novo genere a se nominato Daktulosphaira vitifoliae ordinata est.[2] Quod genus ipse anno insequenti alia orthographia Latiniori sed invalida Dactylosphaera descripsit. Eodem commentationi dubitanter genus novum Viteus ad speciem vitifoliae accommodandam proposuit.[3] Iulius Aemilius Planchon anno 1868 in Francia eandem speciem sicut novam nomine Phylloxera vastatrix descripsit.[4] Unde C. V. Riley anno 1871 in Missouria, descriptione specifica Asae Fitch cum genere a Planchon nominato iuncta, primum binomen Phylloxera vitifoliae construxit.[5] Hae nomina omnia saepe per saeculum insequens adhibita sunt: binomen autem Daktulosphaira vitifoliae accipere necesse est.[6]
