Malpighia
Malpighia est genus circa quadraginta quinque specierum fruticum vel parvarum arborum familiae Malpighiacearum, in regione Caribica, Media America, et septentrionali America Meridionali endemicarum. Hae plantae ab 1 ad 6 m altae stant, coronam spissam, saepe spinosam, habentes. Folia sunt sempervirentes, simplicia, ab 0.5 ad 15 cm longa, margine integro vel serrato. Flores sunt solitarii vel in umbellis duarum vel nonnullarum, quoque flore ab 1 ad 2 cm lato, petalibus quinque, albis, roseis, rubris, vel purpureis. Fructus est drupa rubra, aurantiaca, vel purpurea, duo ad tres semina dura continens. M. glabra et M. emarginata pro fructibus dulcibus succosisque excoluntur, vitamino C abundantibus.[2]
