Humanitates publicae sunt opus organizationum culturalium foederalium, civilium, non lucrativarum, et in communibus conditarum, quae cives inter se conloquuntur, acroases, exhibitiones, perfunctiones, et alia programmata pro hominibus de rebus sicut historia, philosophia, cultura popularis, et artes humaniores permittentes et praebentes. Proposita humanitatum publicarum omnia quae ad varias heredias, mores, et res gestas spectant, et usus humanitatum in hodiernis vitae condicionibus tractant.

Homines qui se humanitatibus publicis dedunt spatia creare conantur ubi cives de educatione et cogitatione rerum et notionum conloqui possunt. Inter proposita humanitatum publicarum sunt exhibitiones et programmaturae quae se cum conservatione historica, historia orali, archivis, cultura materiali, arte publica, heredio culturali, et ratione culturae reipublicae gerendae coniunguntur. Qui humanitates publicas tractent facilitatem et utilitatem humanitatum per publicum generalem vel greges communitatis conservare volunt.

American Council of Learned Societies' National Task Force on Scholarship and the Public Humanities dicit naturam humanitatum publicarum esse inventiones eruditionis academicae civibus docere: "Litterae et humanitates non sunt duae provinciae distinctae, sed partes rationis unius, rationis per quam cognitio privata investigatur et in scientiam publicam commutatur."
