Morphologia huius species est variabilissima. In sua area geographica, quae a Thailandia usque ad Philippinas et ad meridiem per Indonesiam, usque ad Melanesiam et Australiam meridio-orientalem, eae sunt saltem triginta, et fortasse multae plurimae, subspecies (Evans 1932; Smith et al. 2005). Species artissime cognata est Danaus melanippus (Smith et al. 2005).
