Grex cultivarietatum iam diu recognita est ut species seu hybrida Citrus × sinensis, nomen quod sub forma binominis specialis anno 1765 statuit Petrus Osbeck,[2] post Carolum Linnaeum, qui anno 1753 ut varietas accepit C. aurantium var. sinensis.[3]
Malus Sinensis iam saeculo XII exeunte in Europa crescebat, videlicet in monasterio Argyron Constantinopolitanum: ibi pruinis interfecta est si credere possumus epigramma Theodori Balsamonis.[4]
