Solanum aethiopicum
Solanum aethiopicum (binomen a Carolo Linnaeo anno 1756 statutum) est species plantarum florentium generis Solani et familiae Solanacearum, in Aethiopia fortasse nativa. In habitum fruticis inter 0.3 m et 1 m alti crescit, surculis foliisque glabrosis vel pubescentibus, fructibus natura rotundis, diametro inter 1.5 et 5 cm, sed per varietates cultas formam variabilem habentibus. Fructus per omnem annum producit. Species silvatica (praesertim perennis), e qua varietes cultae (praesertim annuae) S. aethiopici ortas esse censentur, S. anguivi nominatur.

Solanum aethiopicum in Africa omni, in Madagascaria, Asia, America australi, Europa meridiana colitur propter fructus et folia ad comedendum adhibita. Fructus radicesque in medicinam praescribuntur propter facultatem carminativam, sedativam, anticolicam. In Iaponia surcula melongenarum in stirpibus S. aethiopici inseruntur ut morbis resistant.
