Lares Romanis fuerunt minora familiarum (lares familiares) vel locorum (lares loci) vel oppidorum (lares publici) vel (tri)viarum numina adiuvantia. Semper pie venerantur. Credebantur servare, protegere, affectare omnes quae intra fines loci vel eorum muneris evenirent. Statuas domesticorum Larium super mensa in cibum familiae ponebantur. Eorum praesentia in momentis eventibusque familiaribus necessaria videntur.
