Witebia
urbs
Witebia,[1] vulgo Whitby, est oppidum Isuriae in Anglia septentrionali, portus maris Germanici praecipue piscatorius, locus otiosus. Hic coenobium nomine Streuneshalgh[2] ab abbatissa Hilda sub Osuio Northanhymbrorum rege anno 657 conditum est. Poëta Caedmon monachus fuit eius coenobii.
