Korea is considered to be one of the oldest continuous civilizations in the world.[2] The Gejoseon kingdom was started according to legend in 2333 BC by Dangun, a descendent of heaven. The capital was at the Manchurian -Korean Border but was later moved to Pyongyan. In 108 BC, The Chinese Hands defeated King Joseon and established rule until 313 AD when it fell to the Goguryeo kingodm.

At this time there were many kingdoms and states of which Goguryeo was the lartgest of the largest of them.

See principal article , The Three Kingdoms.

Eventually, they combined to become the main kingdoms of Goguryeo, Baekje (or Paecce) , Silla and Gaya(or Caia) which was absorbed by Silla. In 918 the kingdoms combined into Goryeo from which the name of Korea derives. At this time, laws were codified, a civil service system was introduced and a the celadon industry flourished.
