Gallicauda Roffignac (Anglice Roffignac cocktail) est gallicauda Novae Aureliae inventa et ad honorem Ludovici Philippi Iosephi de Roffignac Engolismensis nominata, qui anno 1800 ad Ludovicianam migravit, ubi legatus ad cameram civitatis Ludovicianensis praefectusque urbi Novae Aureliae electus est.

Popina Maylié Neo-Aurelianensis, ubi gallicauda Roffignac quotidie offerebatur.

Haec potio mixta anno circiter 1874 venditabat (impenso spirituoso per subterfugium indicto) iuxta syrupos tabernarius Harrison. Ille eo anno nuntium divulgari iussit in diario New Orleans Bulletin ubi potiones ab eo venundatae enumerantur:

You will find his nectar rich, creamy and delicious, his chocolate, coffee, Roufignac and all the fruit syrups are splendid, and I guarantee each one true to its name ("cito venite mecum in domum Harrison ad compita vicorum Magazine et Thalia. Syrupos ipse confecit. Nectar eius pinguem, cramosum, deliciosum sentietis, socolatam coffeamque et Roufignac necnon syrupos e fructibus omnes lautissimos aestimabitis: quemque potionem nomini suo genuinam satisdo").[1]

Harrison mox propter secretam temetorum venditionem inculpatus est, sed potio mixta quam generosius partiebatur celebrata est. Nonnumquam ipse praefectus Iosephus de Roffignac sicut primus inventor falso laudatus est:[2] ita in historia omnino falsa quam T. P. Thompson anno 1911 in Washington Post narravit:

A competitor of Sazerac determined to invent a drink that would rival that of the old Frenchman. He began by mixing brandy with vanilla sirup and sugar, and he gradually worked it into an exceedingly palatable cocktail ... This drink is known as the roupegnac ... The cocktail was named after the man who first mixed it, and he afterwards became the mayor of New Orleans ("Aemulus quidam domini Sazerac reperire voluit potionem quae tam celebra foret, quam illa veteris Francici. Spiritum vini cum syrupo vanillae saccharoque a principio miscuit: gardatim in gallicaudam suavissimam elaboravit: quae potio Roupegnac nuncupatur ad nomen primi inventoris, qui postea praefectus urbi Novae Aureliae factus est").[3]

Saeculo XIX exeunte Roffignac optime parata est apud confectionariam Mannessier; recentius usque in annum 1969 apud popinam Maylié inferri solebat.

Conquassantur pars magna spiritus Cognacensis vel Armeniacensis et modica pars syrupi ex aceto ruborum idaeorum cum glacie; additur aqua bullans; mixtura in poculum infunditur; rubis idaeis foliisque menthae ornare licet.
