Moved from Disputatio:Navarchus Ioannes Passer:

It is true that Jack is historically a nickname for John, but nevertheless it is almost always Latinized as Iacobus. --Iustinus 00:15, 27 Iulii 2006 (UTC) --Thank you my friend, really I was not sure how to translate it. I'll make the Iacobus article instead. cucullatusReply

Moreover, it ought to be Iacobus Sparrow, vide Vicipaedia:Translatio nominum propriorum.--Ioscius 17:53, 4 Augusti 2006 (UTC)Reply
Actually that may be questionable. en:Jack Sparrow indicates (albeit without a reference) that Sparrow isn't his original surname... it may be a nickname of some kind, and translatable, or it may be a new or false surname, and not. But in absence of evidence I'd prefer the untranslated form. —Myces Tiberinus 12:01, 5 Augusti 2006 (UTC)Reply
Interesting. Another argument one might make for not going by the usual rule here: a European in the Age of Exploration would likely have Latinized their surname (and you just know that Jack Sparrow wrote extensive Latin treatises on something or another). Course most of the English authors I've seen (in the 17th century at least) go for forms like Sparuus or Sparowus rather than ones like Passer. --Iustinus 14:59, 5 Augusti 2006 (UTC)Reply
At the very least a redirect...--Ioscius 03:25, 6 Augusti 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure what his first name should be, but I actually like the idea Iustinus came up for the second, possibly nick name. Alexanderr 20:40, 8 Augusti 2006 (UTC)Reply
p.s. can someone look at Piratae Maris Caribii (pellicula)? please? Alexanderr 20:41, 8 Augusti 2006 (UTC)Reply

Why "Navarchus"?

Why is the title "Navarchus NAME" and not just "NAME"? — Whatever the NAME of this person will be ... ;-) --Roland (disp.) 20:31, 8 Augusti 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well besides it being a title he is personally very fond of calling himself "Captain Jack Sparrow", because his ship was mutinied some time before the first movie and probably still wanted the respect that goes with the name, and to constantly assert his claim to his ship. Yes the navarchus makes sense, if you have seen the movie, but again, Passer I have trouble stomaching...--Ioscius 01:36, 9 Augusti 2006 (UTC)Reply

Lineamenta?

What is the deal with listing characteristics and titbits about Jack Sparrow? "Rhomium amat"? "Kraken eum edebat"? "Perquam suavis est"?? This is not encyclopaedic! --BiT 21:04, 1 Ianuarii 2010 (UTC)Reply

I agree with you: those characteristics seem to be not very useful, unless they are put in a longer text e.g. the plot of the films or Jack's biography. At least should be removed the pointed list...

Revertere ad "Jack Sparrow".
