Conquistador < Conquisitator

I'm afraid conquestor isn't the proper word for conquistador. Conquestor 'complainer; plaintiff' has been derived from the verb conqueror, conquestus sum, conqueri, whereas conquistador must be traced back to the verb conquīro, -quīsivi, -quīsitum, -quīrere. This verb would give conquisitor 'fellow explorer, discussant, recruitor, later conqueror'. The Spanish word conquistador, however, comes from Latin conquisitator which presupposes the verb conquisitare, a frequentative formation of conquirere. Accordingly, I strongly suggest Conquestores Hispani be replaced by Conquisitatores Hispani. Hispanus et Hispanicus

Well, I thought that Hispanus would be more adecuate for the noun and Hispanicus for the adjective, but we can discuss this--Xaverius 00:39, 10 Aprilis 2008 (UTC)

Cassell's says the adjectives are Hispaniensis et Hispanus. IacobusAmor

I was just comparing the page Hispania, where it says in the right info box: nomen gentilicium Hispanus//adjectivum Hispanicus. Perhaps it is the Hispania page that is wrong...!? Words also gives Hispanus as the adjective.--Rafaelgarcia 01:30, 10 Aprilis 2008 (UTC)
