Cyclothone est genus piscium bioluminescentium familiae Gonostomatidarum quae plerumque ad magnitudinem octo centimetrorum crescunt et in partibus oceani plusquam trecenta metra profundis habitant. Hoc genus copiosissimum omnium generum vertebratorum creditur, nam sunt fere quadrillio (1015) singularum Cyclothonarum.[1]

Nomen deducitur a verbis Graecis κύκλος 'circulus' et ὀθόνη 'linteum', nam rotundis lacinias operculares habet.[2]
