Branchiae sanguineae sunt structurae corporeae branchiarum similes, quae solum in organis lumine amplo tracheaque minima vel absente in larvis insectorum aquaticorum inveniuntur.[1] Certae autem investigationes, usum huius generis branchiarum in respiratione exquirentes, monstrant has structuras aquam probabilius absorbere.[2]

Larvis nonnullarum specierum simuliorum sunt filamenta corporea branchiae sanguineae appellatae. Hic videtur Simulium trifasciatum adultus.
