Americana est mixtura musicae vulgaris Americanae ("musica radicalis"), a confluentia traditionum communium et variarum genita quae musicum Civitatum Foederatarum ingenium constituunt, praecipue soni qui ex musica vulgari, musica rustica, blues, rhythmo et blues, rock and roll, et aliis gratiis externis componuntur.[1] Hoc genus eclecticum, a Societate Musicae Americanae definitum, est "musica hodierna quae variorum modorum musicae radicalis Americanae elementa mutuatur, inter quae musica rustica et vulgaris, rock radicalis, bluegrass, R&B, et blues, distinctum sonum ad radices pertinentem efficiens, qui in mundo vivit praeter formas puras generum ex quibus extrahere potest. Cum instrumenta acustica saepe praesentia et vitalia sint, Americana etiam pleno grege electrico saepe utitur."[2][3]
