Alpheidae sunt famila squillarum crepantium infraordinis Carideorum, quarum proprietas est bracchia asymmetrica, quorum maius bracchium plerumque magnum concrepandi sonum facere potest.

Familia est diversa, per omnem orbis terrarum distributa, in 1119[1] fere speciebus intra triginta octo vel plus genera consistens.[2] Genera maximi momenti sunt Alpheus et Synalpheus, quorum species plus quam 250 et 100 proprie numerantur.[3][4] Nonnullae species cuniculos in arena defodiunt, ubi cum Gobiidis in coniunctione symbiotica habitant.
