Micropterigoidea sunt superfamilia "archaicorum papilionum mandibulatorum," quorum omnes in singulam familiam, Micropterigidas, digeruntur, primitivissimam Lepidopterorum stirpem exstantem putatam, quibus nunc sunt circa viginti genera viva (Kristensen, 1999).
