Gāo Lián vel litteris Sinicis 高濂, qui Hanchei in urbe saeculo XVI vixit annoque circiter 1603 mortuus est, fuit scriptor fabularum carminumque et auctor seriei libellorum de vita iucunda, quae sub titulo Commentariorum octo de vitae principiis anno 1591 divulgari iussit.

Natus anno circiter 1527 in urbe quae hodie Hangzhou, eo aevo Qiantang appellabatur, filius fuit mercatoris divitissimi qui bibliothecam pinacothecamque congesserat. Breve temporis spatium Pechini operam dedit. In urbe nativa anno fere 1575 reditus ad ripas Lacus occidentalis deinde habitavit.
