Rex Nebrascorum
Dear Rex Nebrascorum, we are trying to create an encyclopedia here, and we wish to include verifiable facts only. Please refrain from adding freely invented "information."
If you wish to write jokes, please do so at http://uncyclopedia.org/, but not here. Thank you. --UV 21:18, 26 Octobris 2007 (UTC)

Salve Rex
recensereI bet you can't write a real article about Igloos. Montivagus 00:02, 27 Octobris 2007 (UTC)
- Well, nice try, in parts. I'm sure if you wanted to make something acceptable you could. It can be fun to translate (part of) an English Wikipedia article (or another language) into Latin, even if you lack expertise in the subject matter. Montivagus 23:33, 27 Octobris 2007 (UTC)
I respond
recensereThe Transoceanic brige is much more exciting (et facta principaliter nive! Non estne magnificus?.)
When you say "real", I assume you mean "not containing facts about Eskimos who migrated to Nebraska and battled whales, savages and oxen." That could pose a challenge. The Nebraskan eskimos (a staggeringly popular topic) are my one real area of expertise.
What is the latin word for Igloo I wonder...
Igloo, Iglonis?
Or iglus, iglucis?
Oh, decisions, decisions...
An Update
recensereI've decided iglus is a fourth-declension masculine noun. Let it never be said that I gave nothing back to the nurturing mother that is Vicipaedia.
AN Update: Part 2- the Reckoning
recensereI see my igloo page was not well-recieved.
- Not much of your work is, bud.--Ioscius (disp) 14:37, 27 Octobris 2007 (UTC)
Rex Nebrascorum: A hero to Men.
recensereAs a patriotic Nebrascan of Eskimo heritage, I salute this fine upstanding individual, a brave, noble character with the gumption to make known the true history of the Nebrascan peoples.
Continue with your vicaepedian crusade, my comrade-in-truth! I hail your steadfastness and strength of will against the A. Dalbian menace.
- Shush! All you silly little boys, seriously tacendum est.--Ioscius (disp) 15:56, 29 Octobris 2007 (UTC)
- We shall never surrender! The fight must continue!
- How do you parse the grammar of Vive Nebrascam? IacobusAmor 13:47, 30 Octobris 2007 (UTC)
- Vive Nebrasca. Let's get it right! Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 13:46, 30 Octobris 2007 (UTC)

Glad to hear you're on board with the true story of Nebraska, Mr. Dalby.
A Bulletin
recensereMy friends and colleagues, tomorrow, November 1st, is Butyrumalia, the Eskimo butter festival. Prepare the customary butter statues, and clear a nearby field for the traditional butter-eating contests, horse-racing, and whale-fighting in the arena.
Io! Butyrumalia!
Post Butyrumalia
recensereNovember 2nd is the trafitional date of Post-Butyrumalia, a solemn day when all Nebraskans stayed inside and regretted profoundly their Butyrumalian escapades, generally while suffering from tremendous hang-overs. The butter was scrubbed from the local campus, and all the elk were shooed back into the wilderness, from whence they wandered.
Farewell, my esteemed colleagues. And in all sincerity, Happy Post-Butyrumalia!
Mea Butyrumalia
recensereNice of you to ask. It was a good day. I was helping a friend move some furniture from Carcassonne to Poitiers (a long drive). The sun shone on us, and the butter was good. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 11:59, 5 Novembris 2007 (UTC)
-Always good to hear from our respected colleagues. Just to clarify, the moron making holocaust jokes on your disputation page was NOT rex nebrascorum (who would, by the way, very much like to be unblocked) nor was he in any way associated with that dignified gentleman.
So, did anyone else have a memorable Butyrumalia?
I myself was pleased to find that the butter statues of my ancestors melted well before Noon, which as you all know, means I will have a bountiful corn harvest in the year to come.
Farewell, and I apologize once again for the idiot attempting to flame you.

unblocking
recensereRex, I see no real reason to unblock you. Here's the thing bud: I think your Nebraska nonsense is actually pretty hysterical. It amuses me to no end, and I've gone out of my way to show it to several other people. However, as I alluded two sentences ago, it is nonsense. If you want help in writing a comical fictional history of Nebraska which includes Eskimos and former presidents, you might even convince me to help. Here is simply not the place for it. You have only shown yourself to be against the spirit of this project. I will grant that you may have had good intentions when writing about igloos, but even then you indicated that the Nebraskan Eskimos took refuge in them. If you seriously want to contribute to this project, say so, and we can start a dialogue from there. If you wish to perpetuate this Nebraska nonsense, I'm afraid this will stay blocked, and every IP trying to spread the Nebraska "truth" will be blocked as well. Regards, and my Butyrumalia was splendid, thanks, pre post and during, hope yours was too. --Ioscius (disp) 04:46, 7 Novembris 2007 (UTC)
Comment
recensereYes, now I see the difference in your English style. No offence. I think the Nebrasca material is amusing too. I agree with what Ioscius says, and -- let me explain -- I have another reason for being (like Q Victoria) unamused overall. What you're doing in your blog is really funny: keep on with it. I'll read it. I might even comment when I can remember my Google login. But what you're trying to do to the wiki project is an analogue of what many, many people do with really serious intent -- all the people who change population figures, just like they did at Versailles in 1919; and the Bulgarians and the Serbians and the Turks who think they can justify their politics by adjusting medieval history; and many more ... They change stuff because they want to lead people to their beliefs (and, just as you said about Warren Harding, they too justify themselves by saying: it may have been ... who can say?, let's make people believe it was). Such beliefs easily become all-powerful, and, as recent history shows all too clearly, they are deadly. We have to struggle to make sure that way of thinking doesn't win. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 10:29, 7 Novembris 2007 (UTC)
I respond to my esteemed colleagues
recensereMr. Dalby- You're going to compare silly eskimo stories to whitewashing genocides? Seems a bit much to me.
Either way, glad you like my material, more will become available when the time is right.
Peace be with you
- But I think you read my comment more carefully than that, and I think you know in what way I'm comparing them. From the point of view of a wiki editor, your material and the stuff that has a real nationalist agenda actually present the same problems: they introduce undocumented statements, probably false (but it may not be evident to every reader that they are false) which waste people's time, reduce the trustworthiness of the project and attempt to trivialize it.
- So, by doing this, you have associated yourself -- just one toe in the water, but it's very dirty water -- with the nationalists and the whitewashers of genocide (to use the same words you chose). If you have time to do this, you have time to do something better. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 10:43, 9 Novembris 2007 (UTC)
Mr. Dalby- Having personal knowledge of the individual with which you disagree, I can assure you that Mr. Nebrascorum is in no way perpetuating a nationalist agenda. His intents are simple: to have fun with latin. Please, be honest with yourself- no one actually uses the latin wikipedia page to find their information. By reinforcing the playful aspect of such a site, we will all be able to come to terms with its purpose. Mr. Nebrascorum does not actually believe that the Nebraskan eskimos are the rightful heirs of nebraskan territory, and anyone who interprets his lackadaisical tomfoolery is a cretinous nitwit.
- There is a reason why no one gets there information from the Latin wikipedia... We are being honest with ourselves and with you in saying that we would eventually LIKE it to be a place where someone can come for information. To be fair, judging from the number of links to {{nexus absunt}}, we do actually have several pages that the English wikipedia doesn't, so there is the potential that we might be used for real information. You may not find out as much about infinity at infinitas as in the corresponding English page, but you'll certainly find out a lot more about who said stuff about it in Latin and Greek. We have potential, man, and your work doesn't really help us develop it.
- Having fun with Latin is something else entirely... I think Dr. Dalby and I both agreed above that we find your work humorous. I just prefer to find it humorous on your site, not ours.
- Maybe you could try a different method of channeling your desire to have fun with Latin. For instance, when I feel a similarly silly impulse, I'll write about hangman or [[pila magica 8|magic eight balls]. I also write a lot of silly Latin haicua, when I'm bored.
- I'll go ahead and unblock you, and you can decide where you want to take this.
