"Sus volat" looks like being an Anglo-centred phrase. Or is the idea of flying pig really attested in some text written in Latin? The idea of flying donkey (asinus volans) is attested (e.g. in Erasmus Roterodamus) as a locus communis for adynaton. --Neander 14:38, 4 Aprilis 2010 (UTC)
- Right, well I said in the first line "taken from English". I'm open to moving the article, surely, but it was PC's creation (although I don't think I kept a single word from his draft). On the other hand, I don't know if we can't keep the page, as it appears, of course translated from English, in Alicia in Terra Mirabili (iure non aequiore quam quo porci volant) and in Per Speculum Transitus (venit tempus nunc...cum mare fervens sit, porcis alaene sint quaerendi). It wouldn't kill us to have a page on the English version, would it? --Ioscius ∞ 17:43, 4 Aprilis 2010 (UTC)
- There are certainly some cultural references to be made here -- Carroll, Wodehouse and no doubt others. Of these, the Carroll text at least can even be read in Latin. I notice that the topic's of interest to Japanese readers; I don't see why it shouldn't be of interest to Latin readers too! There's still room for a page about flying donkeys.
