- On principle, I'm rather sympathetic towards your suggestion, because I've always felt uneasy about the ambiguity of "res publica" (the way it's often used), but then logically, "Res Publica Foederata Germaniae" should become "Res Publica Libera Foederata Germaniae" as well, and before we know it, we have a whole avalanche of changes of numerous countries' names.
