Disputatio:Liber Comitatus (regio recentior)

I did not know that the "Franco condado" was "franco" as liber (like lingua Franca) I always thought it was the "Franco condado", although I was always sure it was not the "Franco condado"...--Xaverius 21:45, 6 Iulii 2007 (UTC)

I don't vouch for this form, which I adopted from an earlier list-maker (the list now at Tabula administrativa Franciae). However, I believed that the meaning was correct. It really is the "Free County", at least according to en:Franche-Comté. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 18:25, 7 Iulii 2007 (UTC)

And, just to be argumentative, lingua franca originally meant the "Frank tongue" (you can actually find that name in earlier English) -- not "free" but a "language of the Franks", i.e. the Mediterranean seamen who spoke a Romance jargon to one another.
