Salve! Tables on theories of Latin names of Channel Islands can be found at nrm:Îles d'la Manche. Man vyi 15:44, 7 Ianuarii 2007 (UTC)Reply

Very useful link! But (just being my usual pedantic self) the Channel Islands aren't part of the United Kingdom. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 16:22, 7 Ianuarii 2007 (UTC)Reply
True - but fixing anything about that here is beyond my Latin. Man vyi 17:14, 7 Ianuarii 2007 (UTC)Reply
Has that something to do with the mysterious difference between "United Kingdom" and "Great Britain"? --Alex1011 20:11, 7 Ianuarii 2007 (UTC)Reply
The Channel Islands don't belong to either. Great Britain (or just Britain) is the big island. The "United Kingdom" currently includes all of this big island and also Northern Ireland. That's the difference, roughly. But I bet you knew that anyway ...
Incidentally, while I was taking up Man vyi's challenge and making a brief article for Insulae Normannorum, someone else has made an article for Caesarea Maritima, which seems to be a fancy name for Jersey. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 20:41, 7 Ianuarii 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fontes neque pro "Insulae Normannorum" neque pro "Manicae Insulae" reperio, sed (paucos) pro "Insulae Normannicae". An movere oportet? Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 13:19, 17 Septembris 2012 (UTC)Reply

Etenim solum pro "Insulae Normannicae" fontes repperi: - Günther Alexander Ernst Adolf Saalfeld, Deutsch-lateinisches Handbüchlein der Eigennamen aus der alten, mittleren und neuen Geographie, Lipsiae, 1885, C. F. Wintersche Verlagshandlung, p.443. [1] (Germanice, Latine) - Julius Victor Carus, Prodromus faunae mediterraneae, sive Descriptio animalium maris Mediterranei incolarum, quam comparata silva rerum quatenus innotuit, adiectis locis et nominibus vulgaribus eorumque auctoribus, Stutgardiae, E. Schweizerbart, Vol. V, p.5. [2] (Latine). Mihi videtur mutatio oportere. --Leonellus Pons (disputatio) 04:07, 18 Septembris 2012 (UTC)Reply
