Cursus publicus, tabellarii publici recensere

For what it's worth, William Smith in his English-Latin dictionary translates the "post" as a method of travel by cursus publicus or cursus vehicularius, but for the "letter post", he gives tabellarii publici, saying "cursor publicus seems less suited to denote our modern postal service." And the tabellarius recensere

A tabellarius = a modern postman or is there another word?

Revertere ad "Cursus publicus".
