Basidiomycota sunt una e duabus magnis divisionibus vel phylis quae, una cum Ascomycotis, subregnum Dikaryorum (quae saepe altiores fungi appellantur) intra regnum Fungorum constituunt. Inter ea sunt greges hominibus bene noti: basidiomycetes; genera Calvatia, Calbovista, et Lycoperdon (olim gasteromycetes una appellata); phallaceae; polypora; agaricomycotina; boletales; genus Cantharellusi; geastraceae; ustilaginomycetes; Tilletia tritici (syn. Tilletia caries) et Tilletia laevis, genera quae triticum laedunt; pucciniales; sporobolomyces, et genus Cryptococcus, pathogenum hominum.

Basidiomycota sunt fungi filamentosi, qui plerumque in hyphis consistunt, et se basidiis, cellulis claviformibus, sexualiter propagant, quibus plerumque sunt quattuor meiosporae externae. Quae sporae praecipuae basidiosporae appellantur.[2] Nonnulla autem Basidiomycota se necessarie asexualiter propagant.
