Heber vel Eber (litteris Hebraeicis עֵבֶר) sicut proavus Hebraeorum in "tabula nationum(de)" libri Genesis (cap. 10-14) nominatur. Hoc textu Sem genuit Arphaxad, qui genuit Sala(en), qui genuit Heber (Gen. 11.10-16). Capitulo priore Sem nuncupatur pater "omnium filiorum Heber" (בְּנֵי־עֵבֶר, Gen. 10.21). Ita Hebraei "prognati Heber" per etymologiam dicuntur: in textu Biblico Abram hoc sensu "Hebraeus" dicitur (Gen. 14.13).
