Summarium

Descriptio
English: Publicity photo of William Shatner as Captain Kirk from the television program Star Trek.
Español: Fotografía publicitaria del actor William Shatner caracterizado como el capitán Kirk de la serie de televisión Star Trek.
Datum The publicity release is not dated. The program was on NBC from 1966 to 1969. The type of logo used on the NBC Press Release is the "second peacock", which was used by the network during the years 1962 to 1975. This would be in keeping with the timeframe the show aired on the network and also within the pre-1978 guidelines.

  • The photo has no copyright markings on it as can be seen in the links above.
  • United States Copyright Office page 2 "Visually Perceptible Copies The notice for visually perceptible copies should contain all three elements described below. They should appear together or in close proximity on the copies.
1 The symbol © (letter C in a circle); the word “Copyright”; or the abbreviation “Copr.”
2 The year of first publication. If the work is a derivative work or a compilation incorporating previously published material, the year date of first publication of the derivative work or compilation is sufficient. Examples of derivative works are translations or dramatizations; an example of a compilation is an anthology. The year may be omitted when a pictorial, graphic, or sculptural work, with accompanying textual matter, if any, is reproduced in or on greeting cards, postcards, stationery, jewelry, dolls, toys, or useful articles.
3 The name of the copyright owner, an abbreviation by which the name can be recognized, or a generally known alternative designation of owner.1 Example © 2007 Jane Doe.")
  • Because I couldn't view the back of this photo, I conducted various copyright searches on the UPenn site to try determining if any copyrights had been registered.
  • I searched the complete volumes for film and artwork for the years 1965 to 1969. Desilu Productions registered only w:The Lucy Show and w:Yours, Mine and Ours (1968 film) in conjunction with Walden Films. NBC registered only one still image-a color slide from Bonanza of Ben Cartwright on a horse.
  • Nothing turned up when I searched Star Trek for the years 1965 through 1969 in either film or artwork.
  • There's no evidence of copyright for this time frame from either production company.
