Crédit Industriel de l’Ouest Donation, 1987

A friend of Delaunay's since their time in Rome together, Alphée Dubois enjoyed a brilliant career as an engraver.

Here we see him wearing the Cross of the Order of St Gregory the Great, with his appearance of severity accentuated by the subdued ground and dark suit. The Nantes Museum also possesses a drawing of Dubois as a young man, doubtless dating from the Roman period.
