Painted in 1879, the portrait depicts Franz Joseph seated with various regalia: his imperial robes with a sash in the colours of Austria, a mantle of ermine, and decorations of various chivalric orders, including the collar of the Order of the Golden Fleece. In his right hand he holds a sceptre, while his left hand holds his robes in his lap. To the left, the crown of Rudolf II rests on a cushion. The background is an alcove framed by pillars. Painting in the Palace of Justice, Vienna, seat of the Supreme Court of Justice (Oberster Gerichtshof).
