Disputatio Categoriae:Res classicae
Latest comment: abhinc 17 annos by Sempronius Tyro
Correct me if I am wrong but isn't it bad to call it "classica", a word that in latin means "relating to fleets and sailors"?Rafaelgarcia 02:26, 26 Martii 2007 (UTC)
- One of my dictionaries gives classicus, -a, -um 'of the first rank or degree of merit' and (1) 'pertaining to the first class; superior, of the first rank' and (2) 'pertaining to the fleet'. Another has only 'pertaining to a fleet, or navy'. Propertius has classica bella 'wars by sea'. Ovid has horror classicus 'a terrible sound of the trumpet'. And of course a classicus is 'he that sounds a trumpet to call the classes or companies together to the assemblies; the crier of the court' etc. IacobusAmor 04:03, 26 Martii 2007 (UTC)
By the way, please the disputatio at mechanica Newtoniana Rafaelgarcia 02:42, 26 Martii 2007 (UTC)
"Classicus" can also mean "Classical," as found in "Scriptorum Classicorum Bibliotheca Oxoniensis." I've also remarked at the disputatio at mechanica Newtoniana. --Sempronius Tyro 14:39, 26 Martii 2007 (UTC)
