Disputatio:Universitas Civica Kansiensis
Lemma
recensereGaudio, Universitas Kansiae, recte Universitas Kansiensis, est alia universitas; institutum hic descriptum est Universitas Civitatis? Kansiae (vel fortasse Publica Kansiae Universitas). The University of Kansas (the equivalent of this article's lemma) is *NOT* the same institution as Kansas State University (the subject of this article's present definition and intervici links). Those from outside North America will want to understand that many U.S. states have a double track for the highest levels of education: the University of X is sometimes the more research-oriented (and more prestigious) one, with the State University of X or X State University as the more practically oriented (and less prestigious) one, sometimes having begun as a small institution emphasizing agriculture and mining, or for some other purpose (for example, Florida State University began as the Florida State College for Women, in contrast with the University of Florida). So the lemma here is false and needs fixing. IacobusAmor 12:19, 3 Februarii 2012 (UTC)
- Since we already have an article about "University of Kansas", and the intention here was clear, I've gone ahead and moved this page. The reason I tried "Universitas Civica ..." is because I think I or we have used that formula elsewhere once or twice, because it might deal better with a case like "Kent State University" (where as we know Kent is not the name of a state), and just because it was my choice. But I don't really want to be involved in naming US universities! So if anyone prefers a different version for this and our few other "Universitates Civicae", and moves them, I will be perfectly happy. As far as I know, we have discovered no Latin authority or precedent for "... State University". Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 14:00, 3 Februarii 2012 (UTC)
