Aleonora Aquitana versus Aleonora Aquitanae
recensereI know that in English, as in the play and in the movie, the Queen of England is "Eleanor of Aquitaine", which should translate as Aleonora Aquitanae. I had translated the name like that myself. But then I recalled the fact that in the Middle Ages and early Modern times, the preferred form for references to the place of birth/origin of the wife of a King in her title keeps the adjective, hence Aleonora Aquitana. Likewise, Katherine of Aragon was "Catharina Aragonensis" and not Cathararina Aragoniae, although I understand there may be exceptions. Qv. [1]
- But of course, that is my understanding. Can we have more opinions on that, please?D Ambulans 00:22, 17 Februarii 2006 (UTC)
- Recte dicis, nomen "Aleonora Aquitana" melius videtur, sed ambo valent. Vale. --Marc mage 17:30, 3 Martii 2006 (UTC)
