Cur cantica albaque latine?

recensere

Cur canticorum nomina alborumque latinam redderunt? nulla in lingua hoc fit... mutare possum?

You could at least have used INITIAL CAPITAL LETTERS for the major words of the titles, as is standard in English. IacobusAmor 01:13, 3 Februarii 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ita est! Bene!

proposed changes: Ioannes Vinston Lennon Iacobus Paulus McCartney Georgius Haroldus Harrison Ricardus Starkey

or

Ioannes Vinston Lennonus Iacobus Paulus McCartni Georgius Haroldus Harrisonus Ricardus Starki

otherwise it does not make sense to only latinize Lennon's name. At least Harrison should be Harrisonus

Thanks for your comments. In fact our rule is not to Latinize surnames (unless we can cite a precedent) so I have changed Lennonus to Lennon. Others may want to comment on the Christian names. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 12:54, 12 Decembris 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have made a few changes to the Latin translations of the album names. My rationales for the changes are:

Please Please Me - This had been "Place, Place Me". However, in English the "please" is not repeated for emphasis; rather, it is a pun, "please" being used first in its idiomatic role of introducing a polite request. "Si Placet, Place Me" translates the sense more accurately, while retaining the word-play.

Beatles for Sale - The original translation was "Beatles Vendiuntur", literally "Beatles are sold". The dative "venui" was used to mean "for sale", so I think "Beatles Venui" is a better translation.

Revolver - The English title is a pun: "revolver" usually refers to a type of gun, but the more obvious meaning here is just "something that revolves", i.e. a record. The pun obviously can't be made to work in Latin. The original translation was "Sclopetum Revolvens", "Revolving Gun". However, I think the gun reference in the album's title is the secondary meaning, and I prefer the more literal "Rotator".

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - The original translation was "Grex Solidati Cordum Solitariorum Ducis Piperi". I think "solidati" ("solid") in that title must simply be a mistake for something like "sodalicius" ("of a society or club"), which is what I have amended it to. Also, "dux" doesn't seem an appropriate translation of "sergeant" to me (it means rather "general"), so I have replaced it with "principalis", a term used (among other things) for lower ranking military officers. Good day. I've translated the songs into Latin. The albums of the same name I've used here also. What do you think of the translations? Please feel free to change if you consider better names.
