"in Foedere Maioris Basipilae"

Apparently it's a corporation, so the capital letters are just as OK as they are in, say, "General Motors Company," but the phrase in Foedere Maioris Basipilae would seem to mean 'in the League of the Bigger Baseball', where the name hardly matches the official English name, "Major League Baseball." Syntactically in English, with the compound major-league functioning as an objective noun, the phrase major-league baseball boils down to 'baseball of the major leagues', not, for example, to 'the major league of baseball'. (The leagues in question are the American League and the National League). Ergo fortasse optimum nomen Latine conversum, Basipila Foederum Maiorum. Yes, that's the question. The relevant rules at VP:TNP seem to be:

1. Societates mercatoriae, religiosae, etc. non vertuntur, nisi nomen Latinum iam exstat aut si alii sermones eadem versione utuntur. Ita, Apple Inc., Colgate-Palmolive, Mitsubishi, Societas Crucis Rubrae. Si potes, adde versionem ad verbum factam inque parenthesi positam post primam rei mentionem: Mitsubishi (Iaponice: Tres Rhombi)
2. Marca mercatoria non vertenda sunt. Quorum etiam, si potes, adde versionem in parenthesi.

So, I guess, we don't translate; unless indeed a separate rule needs to be worked out for sporting clubs, leagues and associations. I believe we haven't been consistent in this area. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 13:20, 17 Augusti 2011 (UTC)

Bear in mind, however, that certain commonly heard phrases, like "the major leagues," "the minor leagues," "a major-league ballpark," and even "minor-league baseball" (as opposed to "Major League Baseball"), are not proper names and may therefore escape the aforementioned strictures. ¶ Then we have Major League Gaming, Major League Soccer, the Cactus League, and the Grapefruit League, other apparently trademarked names.
