Just because the Romans, to save space on monuments, abbreviated certain well-known names doesn't mean that we moderns have to. This isn't a Roman encyclopedia. The issue of abbreviating words has been discussed before, but I don't know where the discussion is. IacobusAmor 18:58, 20 Novembris 2007 (UTC)Reply

I remember a discussion in which I, as a novice, was reminded not to use abbreviations in the headings of articles [added later: it was at Disputatio:Decimus Silanus ]. As for when names occur in the text of articles, I haven't seen such a discussion. Maybe before my time.
So long as you can click on the link, or hover over it, and find the full name, it seems OK to me -- one of the reasons why Wikipedia links are so handy. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 19:06, 20 Novembris 2007 (UTC)Reply
