I propose to move this to Laksmibai (regina Jhansiensis). We normally use names rather than titles as the main element of the pagename; in the case of kings and queens this is usually followed by the title in parentheses (and the title "regina Jhansiensis" is fine). Our usual rule with names taken from another script -- where there is no pre-existing Latin form -- is to use the international transliteration, adding the diacritics to the lemma, but omitting the diacritics in the pagename. So the lemma would be Lakṣmībāī. Circumflexes were indeed used in the 19th century, but macrons are called for in the international standard transliteration (IAST). x for kṣ is very tempting, since a single symbol is used for this consonant group in Indian scripts, but it doesn't correspond with IAST ... I am sure a transliteration of her married name is preferable; in English WP there have been several moves for the equivalent article as each Raja of Jhansi would have a "Rani of Jhansi" as consort. This lady is more commonly referred to in English as "the Rani of Jhansi" but that can be overruled. Her husband the raja was promoted to Maharaja but this was only for himself not the kingdom. In Indian English writing her name as Laxmibai or Laxmi Bai or even Maharani Laxmibai is common, and in Indian languages Jhansi ki Rani is common. My version was cobbled together from various sources e.g. the French WP (name with different diacritics there). There has been much argument over the naming of the Indian Mutiny since neither Victorian British nor Indian nationalists have neutrality. Thank you for your work on this which I will have a proper look at tomorrow.--Felix Folio Secundus (disputatio) 18:59, 18 Septembris 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I wondered if you'd looked at the French. They do indeed use circumflexes.
Since Latin carries no baggage in modern history, I think we can try to fix on one name for the war of 1857 -- all we have to do is to choose one that is neutral. I believe "Rebellio ..." may be OK, but I'm not set on it. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 20:40, 18 Septembris 2013 (UTC)Reply
Revertere ad "Lakṣmībāī (regina Jhansiensis)".
