Those breves mark short syllables, but the rules of Latin then require the word to be stressed on the antepenult: cárate. Is that what the author intends? In English, it's stressed on the penult: karáte. Just wondering. IacobusAmor 18:36, 26 Aprilis 2007 (UTC)
